MAPS/California NORML Conducting Marijuana Study

MARIJUANA

September-October 1994

The National Institute on Drug Abuse has released 250 grams of marijuana for an FDA-approved study of water pipes sponsored by the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS) and the California chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) (NORML fax alert, Sept. 1, 1994, p. 2).

Researchers will test three types of water pipes as part of a larger study on harm reduction measures in marijuana consumption. The results are expected in six months and will be presented as a part of NORML's attempt to gain FDA approval for the use of marijuana to treat AIDS Wasting Syndrome.
