The referendum to repeal Oregon House Bill 3643, the law recriminalizing marijuana, gathered 66,947 valid signatures and will appear on the November 3, 1998 general-election ballot as Measure 57. The qualification of the referendum on the 1998 ballot suspends HB 3643 until the election ("Measure to repeal pot law qualifies for 1998 ballot," Oregonian, October 16, 1997, p.
