Small Oklahoma University Hosts Forum on Recreational Marijuana

MARIJUANA

June 1993

Northeastern State University (NSU) speech students hosted a forum on recreational marijuana use this spring, with help from the Oklahoma chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) (Shelley Davis, "Legalization Of Marijuana Debated At NSU," Tahlequah Times Journal [Oklahoma], 4/28/93, p. 1; Shelley Davis, "Marijuana Debate Looks At Pros And Cons Of Recreational Usage," Talequah Times Journal, 5/1/93, p. 12; Krista Schumacher, "Marijuana Group Gives Legalization Information," The Daily O'Collegian [Oklahoma State University], April 30-May 2, 1993, p. 10).

Although the NSU forum focused on recreational aspects, reporter Shelley Davis interviewed NewsBriefs contributor Michael Pearson of Oklahoma NORML about medicinal and industrial aspects of marijuana. A rally supporting marijuana legalization was held May 1 at Little Axe, Oklahoma by Oklahoma NORML. The Cannabis Action Network (CAN) and NORML also set up an information booth in late April at Oklahoma State University, prompting favorable coverage from the OSU newspaper.
