ON CAPITOL HILLMarch 1993 |
The U.S. House Select Committee on Narcotics Abuse and Control, chaired by Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY), ceased to exist March 31 following a vote last month to eliminate that and three other House Select Committees as a cost saving measure (Kenneth Cooper, "Four House Select Committees Face Extinction: Without Floor Vote, Panels on Children, Hunger, Narcotics, and Aged Will End on March 31," Washington Post, 2/21/93, A22).
Eliminating the four Select Committees will save $3.7 million and eliminate 91 jobs.
