An apparent drug-business feud in the mountainous, marijuana-growing region outside Acapulco may have been behind the massacre of 24 people returning from a funeral February 9, according to Mexican police (AP, "Gunmen Kill 24 After Funeral In Mexican Marijuana Region," Washington Post, 2/11/93, A36).
Two trucks carrying 40 family members were ambushed by about 50 gunmen. The bodies of the victims had numerous bullet wounds, and some had been finished off with shots to the head, police said.
