Narcotics Detective Gunned Down in Courthouse While Waiting to Testify

A narcotics detective waiting to provide key testimony in a drug trial was shot to death in a courthouse hallway in Newark, N.J. June 3 (No byline, "Detective Drug Witness Fatally Shot At Court," Washington Post, 6/4/93, A2).

Detective John Sczyrek, 30, was shot in the head with a .357 Magnum. The defendant's cousin was arrested near the Essex County Courthouse where the shooting occurred and charged with murder.
