Kenny Jenks, who received an award from the Washington-based Drug Policy Foundation, continues to fight for legalizing marijuana for medical use (Bill Kaczor, AP, "Man Fights to Legalize Marijuana as Medicine," The Herald-Sun (Durham,N.C.), 12/2/92).
Jenks, an AIDS sufferer who contracted his illness from a tainted blood transfusion, Jenks is one of the 13 Americans provided with legal marijuana for medicinal use by the federal government. His wife, Barbara, who contracted AIDS from him, died in March 1992. Their case drew national attention after Florida police raided their home and seized marijuana they were growing for their own medical use.
