Anheuser-Busch Will Be First to Disclose Alcohol Content in Beers

ALCOHOL

April 1993

Major brewer Anheuser-Busch is leading the way in the trend towards more complete labeling of alcoholic beverages, with labeling of alcohol content in the companies' beers planned for this April (Richard Gibson and Marj Charlier, "Anheuser Leads Way In Listing Alcohol Levels," Wall Street Journal, 3/11/93, B1).

The action follows a revision in a post-Prohibition law that banned listing of alcoholic content on beer. At the time, the rationale was that listing alcohol content could lead to breweries wooing customers with stronger brew.
